Toyota, the Japanese automotive giant, may share its next-generation electric vehicle (EV) technology with its partners in an effort to compete with Tesla, the American EV maker. According to reports, Toyota is developing a new electric vehicle platform that can accommodate multiple vehicle sizes and types, including SUVs, crossovers, and sedans.

The move is part of Toyota's plan to have more than 70 electric or fuel cell models by 2025, globally. The company has already unveiled its first all-electric SUV, the bZ4X, which will be available for sale in 2022. The bZ4X is based on the company's new e-TNGA platform for BEVs. Toyota is also reportedly considering another SUV, as well as a compact crossover, that will be built on the same platform.

Sharing its next-generation EV technology with partners would allow Toyota to reduce development and production costs while also increasing the scale of production. This makes sense given the high cost of developing EV platforms, which can run into the billions of dollars. Additionally, sharing technology would allow Toyota to expand its EV offerings quickly, keeping pace with its competitors.

Toyota is reportedly in talks with several of its partners, including Subaru, with whom it developed the bZ4X. Toyota may also share its technology with other Japanese automakers such as Suzuki, Daihatsu and Mazda.

Overall, sharing technology is a smart move for Toyota as it enables the company to take on Tesla, which has a significant head start in the EV market. With this move, Toyota may be able to compete more effectively with Tesla and other rivals, while also ensuring that it remains at the forefront of electric vehicle development.
