Toyota, the Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, has announced that it has exceeded its initial target of producing 9.1 million vehicles for the year 2021. Despite the ongoing global chip shortage, the company managed to produce 9.15 million vehicles, indicating a 1.3% increase in production from the previous year.

This achievement, mainly driven by the strong sales in North America and China, marks Toyota's best annual production record in five years. The company has also been able to maintain its position as the world's largest automaker by volume, thanks to its resilient supply chain and production system during these challenging times.

However, Toyota cautioned that the chip shortage, which has affected the industry's performance since last year, is still lingering and could impact the company's output in the coming months. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has led to a shortage of semiconductor chips, a vital component in modern-day vehicles, causing disruptions in automobile production worldwide.

Toyota is not the only automaker to have been affected by the chip shortage, and the industry's recovery depends on a significant improvement in the semiconductor supply chain. The Japanese manufacturer is, however, optimistic that its production and supply chain management efforts, including partnerships with semiconductor companies, will help mitigate the chip shortage crisis.

Overall, surpassing its production targets indicates that Toyota has been able to weather the ongoing chip shortage better than most automakers, thanks to its operational resilience and strategic planning to overcome supply chain issues.
