Toyota has unveiled two new concept vehicles that preview upcoming additions to its bZ electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The bZ4X Concept and bZ5 Concept were revealed at the recent Shanghai Auto Show, signaling Toyota's commitment to expanding its offerings of battery-electric cars.

The bZ4X Concept is a midsize crossover that was developed jointly with Subaru. It features a sleek, futuristic design and is built on Toyota's new e-TNGA platform, which will be used for future EVs. The concept also features a unique steering system, which Toyota calls a "steer-by-wire" system, that eliminates the need for a physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels.

Meanwhile, the bZ5 Concept is a smaller SUV that was developed entirely by Toyota. Few details have been released about this concept, but it is likely that it will share some of the design cues and technology features of the bZ4X Concept.

The bZ moniker stands for "beyond Zero," which emphasizes Toyota's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality through the development and production of EVs. The company aims to offer electrified versions of its full lineup of vehicles by 2025 and plans to be carbon neutral by 2050.

While both concepts are still in the pre-production stage, they give an exciting glimpse into the future of Toyota's EV lineup. The bZ4X Concept is expected to go into production in mid-2022, with the bZ5 likely to follow a year later.
