According to reports, the budget EV would be designed and manufactured in China before being shipped to Europe. Nio is said to be aiming for a price point of around €25,000 to €30,000 ($29,000 to $35,000) to make the EV more accessible to consumers in the region.
Nio has been gaining popularity in China with its upscale electric SUVs and an innovative battery-as-a-service subscription model that allows drivers to swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones at exchange stations. However, the company has yet to establish a presence outside of China.
Nio's move into the European EV market comes at a time when demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly, driven by government incentives and stricter emissions regulations. The European Union has set a target of reducing CO2 emissions from new cars by 37.5% by 2030, and is offering subsidies and tax breaks to encourage the adoption of low-emissions vehicles.
While the specifics of Nio's budget EV are still unknown, the move into the European market could be a significant step for the Chinese automaker and a strong sign of the continued growth of the global EV market.
