The battery plant will be located in the state of Alabama and is expected to be fully operational by 2022. The facility will have the capacity to produce batteries for up to 100,000 electric vehicles per year. This signifies Hyundai's commitment to expanding its presence in the United States, where electric vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity.
Hyundai has set a target to sell 1 million electric vehicles globally by 2025, and this new battery plant is expected to play a crucial role in achieving that goal. By manufacturing batteries closer to its customers, Hyundai can reduce logistics costs and ramp up production more quickly to meet demand.
Moreover, Hyundai is actively working to reduce the cost of batteries, which is critical to making electric vehicles more affordable for consumers. The company is developing its own battery technologies, including solid-state batteries, which are lighter, more energy-dense, and potentially cheaper than current lithium-ion batteries.
In summary, with the introduction of the new battery plant, as well as its focus on developing new battery technologies, Hyundai is positioning itself to become a major player in the global electric vehicle market and is making a strong contribution to the growth of the industry.
