Former Audi CEO Rupert Stadler is facing a conviction in the ongoing Volkswagen (VW) diesel scandal case. The case, which began in 2015 when VW admitted to cheating on diesel emissions tests, has resulted in fines, recalls, and legal charges for several high-ranking executives at the company and its subsidiaries.

Stadler, who was CEO of Audi from 2007 to 2018, was arrested in 2018 on charges of fraud, false certification, and criminal advertising. He is accused of knowing about the emissions cheating and failing to take action to stop it. Stadler denies the charges.

The trial of Stadler and three other former Audi executives began in September 2021 in Munich, Germany. The trial was initially delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If convicted, Stadler could face up to 10 years in prison. The trial is expected to last for several months, with a verdict likely in 2022.

The VW diesel scandal has had far-reaching consequences, with the company paying billions of dollars in fines and settlements and recalling millions of vehicles worldwide. The scandal has also led to increased scrutiny of emissions testing and regulations for the automotive industry.
