According to recent investigations by Consumer Reports, certain electric vehicles (EVs) from Hyundai and Kia have safety concerns in their brake lights. Consumer Reports tested these vehicles and found that the brake lights in the EVs from these companies don't always illuminate as quickly as they should, which could lead to accidents in certain driving situations.

The tested vehicles in question are the 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric, 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, 2022 Kia Niro EV, and 2022 Kia EV6. According to Consumer Reports, the brake lights on these vehicles have a delay of up to half a second before they illuminate. This may not sound like a big issue, but in certain circumstances, such as when a driver is following the vehicle at high speed, every fraction of a second counts and can make a big difference in preventing an accident.

Consumer Reports says that it has alerted Hyundai and Kia to the issue, and the companies have told them that they are investigating. Representatives from Hyundai and Kia have assured the public that safety is their top priority and they are committed to resolving any issues that may be identified.

For now, it's recommended that drivers of these vehicles be aware of the potential delay in the brake lights and take extra precautions when driving in situations where a quick response is needed. Consumers who are considering purchasing the affected EVs should do their research and keep up with any updates on this issue to make an informed decision.
