BYD to launch Dolphin low-cost compact EV in Europe
Scroll Down and Click "CONTINUE"
The Dolphin has a range of around 400 kilometers and can charge up to 80% of its battery in just 30 minutes. The car is equipped with a 70 kW electric motor that can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h.
BYD is one of the largest EV manufacturers in China and already has a strong presence in the European market with its buses and trucks, but this marks the company's first foray into the European passenger car market. The company is confident that the affordable price point of the Dolphin will attract a new wave of customers to the EV market, particularly those who may have been priced out of buying an EV before.
According to the International Energy Agency, the number of EVs on the road worldwide is expected to reach 145 million by 2030. With countries like the UK, France, and Germany pledging to transition to entirely zero-emissions road vehicles in the coming years, BYD's entry into the European passenger car market comes at a pivotal time for the EV industry.
The Dolphin is expected to be available in Europe in early 2022 and will compete with other affordable EVs such as the Renault K-ZE and Dacia Spring. BYD's entry into the market will likely increase pressure on existing automakers to produce more affordable EVs in order to remain competitive.
