BrightDrop, founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of General Motors, has developed an electric delivery vehicle, the EV600, and a software platform for managing and optimizing deliveries. The company aims to lower the cost and environmental impact of urban delivery services.
As part of the acquisition, BrightDrop CEO Travis Katz will be leaving the company to pursue new opportunities. A replacement has not yet been named.
In a statement, General Motors Chairman and CEO Mary Barra said, "The addition of BrightDrop's talented team and advanced technology solutions will further our vision for a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion."
The acquisition of BrightDrop is the latest move by General Motors to invest in electric and autonomous vehicles. The company has pledged to offer 30 electric models globally by 2025 and has recently announced new investments in battery manufacturing.
